Watch out for extra charges!

When we arrived in the middle of the night at Lisbon Airport we had to go to the Guerin desk to pick up our car. Auto Europe is a brooker who does not offer cars directly. They offer cars from well known companies as Hertz, Avis, Guerin etc. The lady of Guerin got a little bit angry when she saw we rented our car not directly from Guerin. I said I would rent a car directly from Guerin if the price difference (€250) wasn't so big. I had to fill in forms in which they made me directly responsible for the possible damage etc. After a lot of quarrel I had to pay about €70 extra to get the car (middle of the night, 2 little kids....) When I came back in Holland I immediately sent an email with complaints to Auto Europe. After two weeks! I got a respond in which Auto Europa made me clear that the extra charges of €70 had to do with airport taxes and roadcharges.... Why aren't those charges in their rental prices? Because it is impossible to rent a car without paying these charges... Even Auto Europe can understand this I guess.... So if I were you..... take another carrental company like cardelmar (never had any problems with them) or Hertz... Perhaps you pay a little bit more, but you will not meet any extra charges.... By the way..... avoid Guerin as well.... If Guerin does business with Auto Europe and they get angry that people rent from Auto Europe in stead of rent from Guerin directly, there is a great problem I think....

Extra charges!!! A brooker, so no cars of their own company.... (so you rent from Auto Europe but you have to do 'business' with another company....
